Suicide is a serious public health problem around the world. Addressing this issue remains a challenge, especially in relation to providing culturally responsive suicide prevention interventions to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. This presentation focuses on suicide and suicide intervention within New Zealand’s fastest growing Asian communities. The research identifies trends, methods, as well as risk and protective factors of suicide within these communities. Addressing cultural factors is very important in developing strategies to prevent suicide in Asian communities. Approaches for supporting families and communities bereaved by suicide are also discussed.
