Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of a Student Representative is to act as point of contact between the student community and the rest of discipline. By raising student matters and communicating student views, Student Representatives make a valuable contribution to Nursing, Midwifery and Nutrition’s decision-making and activities.
Responsibilities
While the role of Student Representatives offers ample scope for innovation, there are certain basic commitments set out below:
- Meetings: Typically, Student Representatives attend two meetings per semester with the relevant year level coordinator.
- General point of contact: Contact details for the Student Representatives are available to all students. In theory, any student could get in touch about any matter (and we encourage them to do so). In practice, this rarely happens and the onus is on Student Representatives themselves to keep their finger on the pulse of student matters.
- Social events: Student representatives are responsible for coordinating social events.
Benefits
As well as playing a crucial role in the student experience there are benefits to you personally. Some of the skills and experience you will gain from your experience as a Student Representative include:
- Communication skills
- Problem solving skills
- Organisational skills
