Seminar: Addressing Cisgenderism in Service Responses to Transgender People

Jocelyn Wale Seminar Series – Addressing Cisgenderism in Service Responses to Transgender People.

Guest speaker: Associate Professor Damien W. Riggs.
Date: Friday 4 March 2016.
Time: 4:00-5:00pm AEST
Location: A21.001 (JCU Cairns); 017.101 (JCU Townsville); A1-01 (JCU Singapore)

A now substantial body of research has consistently found that transgender people experience poorer mental health when compared to the general population. The context of cisgenderism, it has been suggested, provides an explanation as to why this is the case. This seminar presents a model that accounts for the impact of cisgenderism upon transgender people in terms of mental health, and advocates for ways to improve service responses so as to better support transgender people.
